I am still here, really! And, contrary to what I may have said in the past about long bloggy absences coinciding with secret-keeping, I am not (to my knowledge) either pregnant or in the process of adopting again. Just to get that out of the way.
Things have been busy but good. Niko had a sleep study done last week, and he coped admirably with the hour-long process of being attached to all the machines and then slept like a champ. I even got some sleep myself, which I gather is pretty unusual with these things. As far as I know, they didn’t find anything alarming, and we will meet with his surgeon to discuss the results in a couple weeks.
He also had a visit to the ENT doctor to see if cleaning out his ears would improve his hearing at all. A one-hour appointment became a four-hour day of being passed back and forth from the ENT to the audiologist and eventually fitting our brave little man for his first hearing aids. The more I learn about this little boy the more amazed I am at how well he has adapted to the challenges he faces. He has a “moderate to severe” hearing loss in the lower range and yet has managed to pick up an incredible amount of English in less than six months. Clever boy!
The summer is flying by in a steady stream of freezy pops and lazy days at the park. The big girls are chomping at the bit to get back to school, so we are deliberately waiting to order their new curriculum in order to ensure that we actually take a summer break. They have been known to sneak in some math exercises when they think I’m not looking, but have largely been filling their days reading Trevor’s old collection of Tintin books, which makes their Daddy’s heart proud.
Coraline passed her 9-month check-up with flying colors. She is finally free from the ear infection that hung around forEVER, and she is still clinging tenaciously to the bottom rung of the weight chart. Her head is in the astounding 91st percentile. Big brains! She is scooting around more on her tummy but still not properly crawling by any stretch, and that’s fine with us. She can now stand up holding on to something, though you have to help her get there. This is great news for her as she can finally reciprocate the attention of sweet little Levi next door.
All things told, everyone is doing well, and the lack of busyness here on the blog is just a reflection of our spending our summer *not* in front of a computer screen. At least, not too much of it.
