(Philippa: (f.) Greek. Lover of Horses.)
Pippa: (holding up a piece of soft pretzel) Look, Mom, J for Juniper… and Jodi!
(…a few seconds of deep thought…)
Mom, was your name really Jodi when you were a little girl?
Me: Yes.
Pippa: (uncontrollable giggles)
Me: Why is that funny?
Pippa: Because Jodi isn’t a kid name. It’s a mom name! (More giggling. Romilly too. Hmph.)

Looks like she’s grasped the concept of generational name popularity. Now how to I break it to her that by the time she’s naming her babies, Jodi may just be at the height of name fashion again? (It could happen.)
Wow. My first thought is … I remember when my aunt and uncle named my cousin Brittany. I thought to myself, can you imagine a grandma named Brittany!? That’s absurd!? What does Pippa think of that one? I suppose it’s a mom name too?!
My second thought is … I just had this interaction with a 15 year old babysitter at church the other day. After it was over and she was walking away with A and T, I realized that I was like an old woman in her eyes even though I feel like I’m maybe just a few years older than her. Pippa just confirmed it. I’m an old woman. Geesh.
My third thought … I have failed as a mother. Audra doesn’t notice a THING about names unless its just to remember names of kids she knows and plays with and I think she only does that because she knows I’ll pester her until she remembers. LOL!
It is so fun to have little girls to play the name game with!
I think my Libby is a natural name nerd too…she started making up interesting names all on her own, and some of them aren’t half bad.
She named her first baby doll Taylie, which I thought was interesting and cute. She named her “fur-real” gorilla Korzella, wich seems fitting for an ape baby 🙂
When we were playing the name game when I was pregnant with Corban, but thinking maybe “girl” she offered up the name Lilla, It caught my attention as list worthy, but dh vetoed it.
