A Bad Mom Day

sm_franny_cartoon.jpg Today was off to such a promising start.  I got up early (that’s what I thought I’d be writing about today, but hopefully I’ll revisit that topic later this week), and I had read my Bible and emptied the dishwasher before any of the girls woke up.

I was flying through my to-do list after breakfast. Box up eBay sale for shipping. Check. Potty train Romilly. Check (Well, okay. Not check, exactly, but she did go on the potty once today, so it’s a start.) Check for upcoming doctor’s appointments. Hmm… let’s see. Romilly fluid-in-ear follow-up: Wednesday March 12th. Fine. Pippa rheumatologist: Friday March 28th. Good. Pippa eye check-up: Monday March 3rd. March 3rd… March 3rd? What?!? Not good! Not fine!!! What time? 9:45 AM. Very bad!!! What time is it now? 11:17.

So there was nothing to do but call and grovel. I don’t know how many times the phrases “never missed an appointment before” and “don’t know how this happened” escaped my lips, but it wasn’t doing me an ounce of good. I didn’t get a “these things happen all the time” or a “don’t worry about it”. Not even so much as an “it’s okay”. Just, “Well, the next available appointment is at the beginning of May.” At 9:15 AM. An hour from my house. Serves me right. “Thank you,” I said. “That will be just fine.” So, if Pippa develops rheumatoid-related inflammation of the eye (not that that’s ever happened before, but we have to keep an eye on it, so to speak) between now and May, it will be entirely my fault.

This might not have been such a tough blow had it not come right on the heels of discovering last night that all three of the girls’ carseat straps have been too loose for I don’t know how long. Who knew they had to be that tight? (Oh, and that was a rhetorical question, so no need to fill my comment box with “I did”s and “Me, too!”s. Not that you would have done that.)

I can only think that God knew I was just starting to feel pretty on top of this mother-of-three deal, and I needed a bit of humbling to bring me back to my knees where I belong.  Sigh…

(P.S.  Any fellow FLYbabies out there will recognize Franny in her sweatpants, so I should give FlyLady a little shout out.  For the record, I am wearing my shoes right now, but I do have a serious hotspot going on on the very table where I’m typing this.)
